Advanced TV Shipments to Grow to $39 Billion
The advanced TV market is forecast to grow to more than 54 million units in shipments and $39 billion in revenues by 2029, according to the latest release of Counterpoint Research’s Quarterly Advanced TV Shipment and Forecast Report. Global advanced TV shipments are forecast to increase at a 12% CAGR during 2024-2029, while revenues are projected to increase at a 4% CAGR during 2024-2028 to $39 billion and plateau at that level in 2029.
The report covers the global premium TV market, including the most advanced TV technologies – White OLED, QD-OLED, QD-LCD, MiniLED and Nanocell with 4K and 8K resolutions. The report includes history by quarter from 2020 through Q3 2025 and a forecast by quarter through 2029, covering shipments and revenues by technology, region, brand, resolution and size. Compared to the last update, we have increased our forecast for advanced TV shipments and revenues, and for MiniLED TVs, but decreased our forecast for OLED TVs.
After increasing at a torrid 39% in 2024, we forecast that advanced TV shipments will slow to a still scorching 26% in 2025 and gradually decelerate during 2026-2029. Revenues, which increased 31% in 2024 after two years of no growth, are forecast to increase by 5% in 2025.
The report covers eight geographic regions, but the three most important of those are North America, Western Europe and China. In China, advanced TV shipments more than doubled YoY in 2024 and are forecast to continue to increase at a 12% CAGR during 2024-2029. Revenues are projected to increase by 22% in 2025 and by 10% in 2026 to $11.4 billion and plateau at that level.
In Western Europe, advanced TV shipments are forecast to increase at a 9% CAGR during 2024-2029. Revenues are expected to increase by 6% 2025, but to decline thereafter. In North America, advanced TV shipments are forecast to increase at a 9% CAGR during 2024-2029. Revenues are forecast to plateau in 2026-2028 and decline slightly in 2029.
Last year saw exceptional growth in very large-sized (>75”) TVs, and we expect that trend to continue, primarily in advanced LCD TVs, because OLED TV fabs have limited capability to make such large-sized panels. Advanced LCD TV shipments are expected to increase at a 13% CAGR during 2024-2029, with >75” advanced LCD TV shipments forecast to increase at a 15% CAGR.
The forecast for OLED TVs is less sanguine. OLED TV shipments are expected to increase at a 6% CAGR during 2024-2029. Shipments for 77” and larger OLED TVs are expected to increase at an 11% CAGR over the same period.
In the “super-premium” category, which comprises OLED and MiniLED TVs, MiniLED TVs overtook OLED TVs in 2024 and are expected to continue to gain share in terms of both units and revenues. MiniLED TV shipments are expected to increase at a 19% CAGR during 2024-2029, compared to OLED TVs with a 6% CAGR. MiniLED TV revenues are expected to continue to increase at a 9% CAGR during 2024-2029, while OLED revenues are projected to decline during 2025-2029.
