Advanced Notebook PC Panel Shipments to Grow 9% in 2025; OLED Notebook PC Panel Shipments to Rise 30% in 2026 with Apple Adoption
The global notebook PC display market is set for continued growth through 2025, driven by enterprise upgrades, AI adoption and new product introductions, according to Counterpoint Research’s latest Quarterly Advanced IT Display Shipment ,Technology and Capacity Report.
Growth across both mainstream and advanced segments continues to be driven by improving commercial demand, the ongoing Windows 11 upgrade cycle, and the rapid emergence of AI-enabled PCs. In Q2 2025, advanced notebook panel shipments surged 34% YoY, supported by front-loaded orders ahead of tariff adjustments and robust back-to-school demand. Continued YoY growth is expected in Q3 2025, underpinned by stronger holiday season demand compared to last year.
The broader notebook PC display market grew 8% YoY in Q2 2025, following a 15% YoY increase in Q1 2025, buoyed by early-year shipments ahead of potential tariff impacts. For full-year 2025, the market is projected to expand by 4% YoY, an upward revision from Counterpoint’s previous 1% forecast, reflecting resilient enterprise demand despite macroeconomic and tariff-related headwinds.
Looking ahead to 2026, OLED notebook PC panel shipments are forecast to rise 30% YoY, driven largely by Apple’s adoption of OLED technology in its next-generation MacBook Pro models. These launches are expected to further accelerate OLED penetration across IT form factors and reinforce the industry’s transition toward premium, high-performance displays.
OLED technology and cost roadmap
Significant performance and cost improvements are expected, enabled by advances such as:
- Tandem OLED stack architectures, which enhance brightness and extend lifetime.
- Alternative lithography processes (like eLEAP and ViP) that improve efficiency and yield.
- Introduction of a phosphorescent blue OLED emitter by 2026.
- Cost reductions from scaling G8.7 oxide backplane substrates.
Market outlook
Over the forecast period, Counterpoint Research remains strongly bullish on the OLED notebook PC segment, projecting a 35% CAGR in unit shipments and a 52% CAGR in revenues from 2023 to 2029.
